Apple announces a new iPhone 12 mini today.
It's the first time that Apple has used the nickname "mini" on its iPhone line, after being used on iPod mini, iPad mini, and Mac mini previously. The new iPhone 12 mini has a 5.4-inch screen, which means Apple has squeezed a screen larger than the 4.7-inch screen found in this year's iPhone SE in a smaller iPhone 12 mini overall.
Apple made the $ 729 iPhone 12 mini smaller by removing Touch ID and replacing it with Face ID, along with a significant reduction in bezels around the display. Apple claims to be the world's smallest, lightest and lightest phone.
Like the iPhone 12, the iPhone 12 mini uses Apple's A14 Bionic, a 5nm company with better energy efficiency and performance than the A13. Processing of Apple's hex (4) CPU is 50 percent faster than A13 chip. Quad-core graphics processing has also appeared, which Apple claims will enable "console-quality" games.
IPhone 12 mini shares the major iPhone 12 specifications and designs as well. IPhone 12 mini has flat floor space now with iPad Pro and iPad Air (and similar to iPhone 4 from 10 years ago).
The shared specifications include a 12MP f / 1.6 main camera - the fastest aperture of any iPhone yet - and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. Apple has improved the low-light performance on the iPhone 12 mini, and the front camera will also include its own night mode.
The screen glass on iPhone 12 mini is also coated with what Apple describes as a "ceramic shield" for better durability. The water and dust resistance has also been improved to an IP68 rating.
Apple is also using the new MagSafe Magnet System on the iPhone 12 mini. It supports wireless chargers (including Qi-enabled devices), case accessories, and even leather wallets that all attach to the back of the device.
Apple's iPhone 12 mini starts at $ 729 and will be available in five color options: blue, green, black, white and red, and pre-orders for the iPhone 12 mini will start on November 6 at 5 a.m. PDT / 8 a.m. ET with the phone. Shipping on November 13th.
