Twitch responds to the "Twitch Do Better" movement with improved chat filters

Twitch today released a statement announcing the steps it is taking to protect marginalized broadcasts.

"We've seen a lot of conversations about hunkering down, hate raids, and other forms of harassment targeting marginalized creators," Twitch wrote. "You're asking us to do better, and we know we need to do more to address these issues."

Twitch says a "vulnerability has been identified in our proactive filters, and has rolled out an update to bridge that gap and better detect hate speech in chat." It also says that it will implement more security features in the coming weeks, including improvements to the account verification process and evasion detection tools.

This statement comes in response to the hashtag #twitchdobetter, which was an effort started by Twitch creator RekItRaven in order to raise awareness of the harassment issues faced by black creators on the streaming platform.

“I got bullied for the second time in a week and got involved in both the first and second instances [on Twitter] because they were so pointed rather than the usual, 'You're fat, black, gay,'” Raven told us via direct messages.
